This antique Hamadan rug, circa 1940, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian village weaving distinguished by its bold geometric drawing and softly aged palette. The composition features a dramatic stepped central medallion set against a deep blue field, framed by an expressive border and rendered in hand-knotted wool with the character and patina collectors prize in early 20th-century Hamadan rugs. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or office.
Faded cool tones of navy, ivory, blush, taupe, slate, and brown, with a navy field.
Hamadan is a Kurdish city in north western Iran famed for its rug production. Numerous villages around the city produce rugs with their own design elements, all under the name Hamadan. They are woven on a cotton foundation, and are single wefted.
