Dimensions: 3'10" x 7'8" (117 cm x 234 cm).
Circa: 1910.
Antique Northwest Persian runner, circa 1910, hand-knotted and one-of-a-kind, with a softly faded ivory field filled by an orderly all-over lattice of small geometric boteh motifs. The sky blue border and warm taupe detailing give this village weaving a refined, understated presence, while its age-softened palette and crisp linear drawing showcase the character collectors prize in early Persian rugs. A versatile accent for a hallway, entryway, or office.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, sky blue, taupe, brown, camel, and soft pink, with a ivory field.
Northwest Persian is a regional designation covering the broad arc of carpet-producing areas in Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, and the surrounding provinces of northwestern Iran — including Heriz, Serapi, Bakhshayesh, Karaje, and the many Kurdish and Shahsavan tribal weaving groups of the region. The area has been one of the most prolific and important sources of antique carpets in the world.
Northwest Persian rugs share a family resemblance: bold geometric or semi-geometric designs, strong natural dye palettes, and robust construction on wool or cotton foundations. The range of quality and style is enormous — from grand Serapi palace carpets to humble village runners — but all share a vitality and directness that makes them perennially compelling.
