Dimensions: 4'2" x 6'8" (127 cm x 203 cm).
Circa: 1910.
Handmade and one-of-a-kind, this antique Caucasian rug, circa 1910, showcases a striking tribal composition with diagonal bands of hooked and stepped geometric motifs set within a crisply framed border system. The ivory field, softened by age and wear, is animated by sky blue, rust, olive, and camel accents that highlight the graphic precision and collector appeal of this hand-knotted village weaving. Its lean 4' x 6' format makes it an excellent accent rug for a hallway, entryway, or office.
Faded warm tones of ivory, rust, sky blue, olive, camel, taupe, and brown, with a ivory field.
Caucasian rugs have a stronger palette with geometric designs. Longer piled rugs are woven in the highlands and the shorter piled finer rugs in the lowlands. The Caucasus is the area bordered by the Black Sea on the left and the Caspian Sea to the right. The Caucasus mountains border the region from the northwest diagonally to the southwest. Rugs are usually woven on an all wool foundation or with wool warps and cotton wefts, occasionally mixed.
