Dimensions: 3'4" x 4'9" (102 cm x 145 cm).
Circa: 30.
Antique Persian Malayer rug, circa 1930, hand-knotted and one-of-a-kind, with a softly faded ivory field framed by a pale sky blue border and articulated with bold geometric medallion forms. Its finely drawn tribal geometry, low contrast palette, and time-softened patina give this small-scale wool pile rug a refined decorative presence that works beautifully in both collected and airy interiors. An ideal accent for an entryway, bedroom, or office.
Faded cool tones of ivory, sky blue, taupe, beige, camel, and light brown, with a ivory field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
