This antique Afshar rug, circa 1920, is a hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind Persian weaving with a compact format and a richly drawn tribal floral design. Its blue gray field is framed by ivory borders and filled with stylized boteh, rosettes, and geometric floral motifs that create a balanced, collector-friendly composition with soft age patina. An ideal accent for an entryway, hallway, or office.
Faded neutral tones of blue gray, ivory, rust, taupe, olive, dark brown, and rose, with a blue gray field.
Afshar is a tribal group of people located in Southwest Iran, the Caucasian mountains, and Turkey. Most Afshari rugs are produced in village workshops in Southwest Iran. They are woven mostly on wool in a squarish format. The design usually features three center medallions surrounded by small geometric motifs where the use of botehs in the design is common.
