This antique Belouch rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving with a softly faded ivory field framed by intricate borders in sky blue and taupe. Its repeating geometric gul motifs, compact drawing, and time-softened palette give the piece a refined nomadic character that works beautifully in both collected and pared-back interiors. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or beside a bed.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, sky blue, taupe, camel, and beige, with a ivory field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
