Dimensions: 3'2" x 4'7" (97 cm x 140 cm).
Circa: 1920.
Antique Caucasian rug, circa 1920, hand-knotted and one-of-a-kind, with a striking sky blue field framed by ivory borders and bold rust geometric medallions. The stepped star motifs, angular guard borders, and crisp tribal drawing give this small-format weaving strong graphic presence and collector appeal. A versatile accent rug for an entryway, office, or bedroom.
Muted cool tones of ivory, sky blue, rust, terra cotta, camel, taupe, and slate, with a sky blue field.
Caucasian rugs have a stronger palette with geometric designs. Longer piled rugs are woven in the highlands and the shorter piled finer rugs in the lowlands. The Caucasus is the area bordered by the Black Sea on the left and the Caspian Sea to the right. The Caucasus mountains border the region from the northwest diagonally to the southwest. Rugs are usually woven on an all wool foundation or with wool warps and cotton wefts, occasionally mixed.
