Dimensions: 3'5" x 4'9" (104 cm x 145 cm).
Circa: 20.
This antique Afshar rug, circa 1920, is a hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving with a luminous light blue field and a disciplined all-over lattice of small boteh motifs. The ivory border, animated by angular floral and geometric elements in rust, camel, and soft gold, frames the composition with crisp contrast while areas of age wear lend an authentic, time-softened surface. Its compact 3' x 4' format makes it especially well-suited for an entryway, office, or beside a bed.
Faded cool tones of light blue, ivory, rust, camel, gold, and taupe, with a light blue field.
Afshar is a tribal group of people located in Southwest Iran, the Caucasian mountains, and Turkey. Most Afshari rugs are produced in village workshops in Southwest Iran. They are woven mostly on wool in a squarish format. The design usually features three center medallions surrounded by small geometric motifs where the use of botehs in the design is common.
