Dimensions: 2'5" x 4'3" (74 cm x 130 cm).
Circa: 20.
This antique Belouch rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving with a richly patterned field framed by multiple geometric borders. Its warm rust brown ground, deep indigo accents, and ivory guard motifs create a time-softened palette, while the compact all-over lattice and small tribal devices showcase the character of hand-knotted craftsmanship. A distinctive accent piece for a hallway, entryway, or office.
Faded warm tones of rust, indigo, ivory, charcoal, camel, taupe, and brown, with a rust field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
