Dimensions: 3'5" x 4'2" (104 cm x 127 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This antique circa 1930 Malayer rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian weaving with a richly detailed floral medallion composition. Its hand-knotted wool pile presents a nuanced palette of warm brown, ivory, taupe, and charcoal, framed by layered botanical borders and intricate angular drawing. An ideal accent for an entryway, hallway, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of brown, ivory, taupe, charcoal, camel, slate, and ebony, with a brown field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
