This antique Khotan rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind East Turkestan carpet distinguished by its elongated format and refined all-over lattice design. Its softly faded field in rose, taupe, and charcoal is framed by multiple geometric borders, creating a balanced composition with strong decorative presence and collector appeal. A beautiful choice for a living room, dining room, or hallway.

Khotan rugs are from the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang, Chinese Turkestan. These unique rugs made in the towns Khotan, Kashgar, and Yarkand are often referred to as Samarkand after the main trading town in the region. They have a combination of designs and being on the silk route have influences from their Chinese, Turkoman, and Turkish neighbors. Fretwork, cloud borders, trellis patterns, pomegranates and carnations all are incorporated into their designs. They are of long and relatively narrow size with simplistic and spacious designs.
