Antique Karabagh Area Rug (6' x 12')
Dimensions: 6'8" x 12'9" (203 cm x 389 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique Karabagh rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Caucasian carpet distinguished by its elongated format and bold tribal geometry. The ivory field is animated by three large rust-toned medallions, angular drawing, and finely detailed border work that showcase the character of hand-knotted craftsmanship and the decorative clarity collectors prize in early Karabagh weavings. An ideal statement piece for a hallway, living room, or dining area.
Muted warm tones of ivory, brown, rust, taupe, charcoal, and camel, with a ivory field.

Karabagh rugs are made in the south eastern Caucasus close to the Kazak district bordering North Eastern Iran. They have varied designs. Some derive from the classical 18th Century carpets, such as the large medallion format, and some are more formal French influence, related to the Aubusson and Savonnerie styles with their more realistic drawing. They are more often woven on a woolen foundation.
