Circa: 1920.
This antique circa-1920 Varamin rug is a hand-knotted Persian textile distinguished by an intricate all-over Herati-style lattice of floral palmettes and angular vinework. Its ivory field is animated by softly aged rust, teal, sage, and charcoal details, framed by a series of finely drawn reciprocal and floral borders. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or office.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, rust, muted teal, sage, charcoal, taupe, terracotta, and brown, with a ivory field.
Varamin is a town southeast of Tehran in central Iran, producing rugs distinguished by the famous "mina khani" design — an all-over repeat pattern of large floral rosettes connected by delicate vine scrolls, creating a rhythmic, endlessly repeating lattice of great elegance. The mina khani pattern is closely associated with Varamin and is among the most beautiful of all Persian repeat designs.
Varamin rugs are woven on a cotton foundation with an asymmetric knot and a medium pile. Their palette tends toward rich dark blues and deep reds with ivory and green accents. Their elegant, restrained pattern makes them versatile in both traditional and contemporary settings.
