Handmade and one-of-a-kind, this antique Khotan rug from East Turkestan, circa 1940, showcases the distinctive balance of Central Asian geometry and refined decorative rhythm that collectors prize. Its soft rose field is filled with an all-over lattice of pomegranate-like roundels and stylized botanical motifs, framed by multiple terracotta, indigo, and ivory borders that emphasize its hand-knotted character and long gallery proportions. An ideal statement piece for a living room, dining room, or hallway.

Khotan rugs are from the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang, Chinese Turkestan. These unique rugs made in the towns Khotan, Kashgar, and Yarkand are often referred to as Samarkand after the main trading town in the region. They have a combination of designs and being on the silk route have influences from their Chinese, Turkoman, and Turkish neighbors. Fretwork, cloud borders, trellis patterns, pomegranates and carnations all are incorporated into their designs. They are of long and relatively narrow size with simplistic and spacious designs.
