Dimensions: 3'0" x 9'6" (91 cm x 290 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique circa 1920 Malayer runner is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian rug with a finely drawn geometric lattice and small floral rosettes across a softly weathered blue gray field. Its ivory spandrels, dark charcoal accents, and layered tribal borders showcase the precise hand-knotted character and enduring decorative appeal of Malayer weaving. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded neutral tones of blue gray, charcoal, ivory, taupe, brown, slate, camel, and ebony, with a blue gray field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
