This antique circa 1920 Malayer runner is a hand-knotted Persian wool rug with a midnight navy field animated by a rhythmic chain of geometric rosettes and hooked diamonds. Coral, ivory, teal, and muted sage details enrich the densely patterned tribal drawing, while finely worked guard borders give the 3' x 9' runner a crisp, collector-worthy finish. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Muted cool tones of navy, coral, ivory, rust, teal, sage, ochre, and charcoal, with a navy field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
