Dimensions: 3'1" x 10'8" (94 cm x 325 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique circa 1920 Malayer runner is a hand-knotted Persian rug with a softly faded taupe field, delicate geometric floral motifs, and an elegant ivory border. Its elongated all-over design and timeworn palette showcase the nuanced artistry of early 20th-century Malayer weaving. An ideal foundation for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, ivory, beige, charcoal, sage, camel, brown, and faded rose, with a taupe field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
