Dimensions: 4'4" x 6'8" (132 cm x 203 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This antique circa 1930 Malayer rug is a hand-knotted Persian treasure with a softly weathered blue gray field, intricate ivory floral latticework, and richly layered brown borders. Its finely detailed all-over pattern and time-softened palette bring authentic village-weaving character to traditional, rustic, and transitional interiors. An ideal accent for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of brown, blue gray, ivory, taupe, camel, charcoal, and olive, with a blue gray field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
