Circa: 1920.
This antique Malayer rug, circa 1920, is a hand-knotted Persian carpet with an elegant ivory field filled with finely drawn floral sprays, palmettes, and delicate vinework. Its softly aged palette of powder blue, blush rose, taupe, and charcoal is framed by a detailed geometric floral border, creating a refined all-over design with exceptional decorative versatility. An ideal centerpiece for a living room, dining area, or bedroom.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, taupe, powder blue, blush rose, charcoal, sage, camel, and mahogany, with a ivory field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
