This antique Persian Malayer rug, circa 1910, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind runner with an elegant all-over design and finely drawn border work that reflects the region’s enduring village weaving tradition. Its softly faded palette of ivory, taupe, olive, and pale blue gives the hand-knotted field a luminous, timeworn character, while the intricate patterning and long proportions make it especially appealing for layered traditional interiors. An ideal choice for a hallway, entryway, or narrow living space.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, ivory, olive, pale blue, beige, and brown, with a taupe field.

Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
