This antique circa 1920 Malayer runner is a hand-knotted Persian rug with a richly saturated rust field and an orderly procession of bold geometric rosettes. Its ivory, pale blue, and charcoal tribal motifs are framed by intricate reciprocal borders, showcasing the graphic precision and enduring character prized in village weaving. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded warm tones of rust, pale blue, ivory, terracotta, charcoal, slate, and camel, with a rust field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
