This vintage Northwest Persian runner is a handmade, one-of-a-kind rug with a striking tribal geometric design and a classic elongated format. Its hand-knotted character is expressed through stepped diamond medallions, angular vinery, and a softly faded palette of rust, ivory, and muted olive that gives the piece depth and timeworn charm. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or narrow living space.

Faded warm tones of rust, ivory, olive, taupe, rose, and brown, with a rust field.

Northwest Persian is a regional designation covering the broad arc of carpet-producing areas in Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, and the surrounding provinces of northwestern Iran — including Heriz, Serapi, Bakhshayesh, Karaje, and the many Kurdish and Shahsavan tribal weaving groups of the region. The area has been one of the most prolific and important sources of antique carpets in the world.

Northwest Persian rugs share a family resemblance: bold geometric or semi-geometric designs, strong natural dye palettes, and robust construction on wool or cotton foundations. The range of quality and style is enormous — from grand Serapi palace carpets to humble village runners — but all share a vitality and directness that makes them perennially compelling.
