This antique Anatolian runner, circa 1930, is a hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind Turkish weaving with a softly aged ivory field and a bold procession of hooked geometric medallions. Its earthy taupe, charcoal, and coral accents, framed by a serrated tribal border, give the wool-pile design exceptional graphic character and collected warmth. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded warm tones of ivory, taupe, charcoal, camel, coral, rose, sand, and brown, with a ivory field.
Anatolian is a broad regional term covering rugs woven across the Anatolian plateau of Turkey, encompassing production from dozens of weaving centers and village traditions from the medieval period to the present. The earliest surviving Anatolian rugs, fragments of which date to the thirteenth century, already display the bold geometric vocabulary — stepped medallions, hooked borders, stylized animal forms — that would characterize the tradition for centuries.
Antique Anatolian rugs are particularly sought for their use of natural dyes, their vibrant warm palettes, and the improvisational energy of their design. Whether finely woven urban pieces or rustic village work, they share a directness and strength of color that makes them compelling in almost any setting.
