Dimensions: 3'9" x 11'11" (114 cm x 363 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This antique circa 1930 Malayer runner from Persia is a hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind weaving with an ivory and soft blue gray field animated by rust geometric medallions, stylized botanical forms, and small animal figures. Its layered rust, ivory, and brown borders frame the elongated tribal composition with exceptional graphic rhythm and collector appeal. An ideal centerpiece for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded warm tones of ivory, rust, blue gray, terracotta, camel, brown, charcoal, and sage, with a blue gray field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
