This antique Khotan rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind runner distinguished by its bold geometric composition and saturated red field. The elongated design features stepped diamond medallions, angular lattice-like motifs, and finely drawn borders that showcase the crisp artistry and decorative balance prized in East Turkestan weaving. Its vivid palette and strong linear presence make it an ideal statement piece for a hallway, entryway, or living room.

Khotan rugs are from the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang, Chinese Turkestan. These unique rugs made in the towns Khotan, Kashgar, and Yarkand are often referred to as Samarkand after the main trading town in the region. They have a combination of designs and being on the silk route have influences from their Chinese, Turkoman, and Turkish neighbors. Fretwork, cloud borders, trellis patterns, pomegranates and carnations all are incorporated into their designs. They are of long and relatively narrow size with simplistic and spacious designs.
