This vintage Saraband rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece with a finely drawn all-over lattice field framed by multiple geometric borders and stylized animal motifs that reflect its Persian village weaving tradition. The soft ivory and faded blue palette gives it an airy, timeworn character, while the hand-knotted look and balanced composition make it especially appealing to collectors of understated tribal and traditional rugs. Saraband rugs are woven in the Saraband district of Arak province in west-central Iran, and are perhaps best known for the "mir" or boteh field pattern — rows of small paisley-like teardrop forms — that has become one of the most widely recognized motifs in Oriental rug design. The boteh may represent a bent cypress tree, a flame, or a stylized leaf; its exact origin is debated.

Classic Saraband rugs feature this all-over boteh field on a rich red ground with a distinctive border composition. They are woven on a cotton foundation with the asymmetric knot and a medium pile.
