This antique circa 1940 Rag Rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind flatwoven textile with a softly faded plaid design that showcases its folk-art character and utilitarian craftsmanship. Its airy ivory ground is crossed with charcoal, teal, saffron, peach, and blue striping, creating a relaxed geometric composition with beautiful age-softened color and an authentic vintage surface. Rag rugs are woven from strips of recycled or surplus fabric — cotton, wool, or silk — rather than yarn, producing a textile that is both resourceful and visually distinctive.
