This vintage Rag Rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind flatwoven textile with a relaxed striped composition and beautifully irregular artisan character. Its soft ivory ground is animated by bands of charcoal, crimson, orange, cobalt, and teal, giving the piece a lively yet airy presence that works especially well in casual, collected interiors. An ideal accent for a bedroom, hallway, or living room.

Muted neutral tones of ivory, charcoal, crimson, orange, cobalt, teal, coral, and aqua, with a ivory field.

Rag rugs are woven from strips of recycled or surplus fabric — cotton, wool, or silk — rather than yarn, producing a textile that is both resourceful and visually distinctive. The tradition spans many cultures: American hooked and braided rag rugs, Turkish "Caput" flatweaves made from surplus cotton, and Moroccan "Boucherouite" rugs of recycled fabric strips.

Moroccan Boucherouite rag rugs are particularly prized today for their extravagant improvised designs, bold coloring, and creative geometric patterns, woven by Berber women using whatever colorful fabric came to hand. No two are alike, and their joyful, improvisational quality has made them enormously popular in contemporary interiors worldwide.
