This vintage Rag Rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind flatwoven textile with an airy striped composition and understated folk character. Its soft ivory ground is animated by delicate linear bands in blue, charcoal, and blush, giving the piece a beautifully faded palette and relaxed decorative presence. An ideal accent for a hallway, bedroom, or kitchen.

Faded neutral tones of ivory, pale blue, sky blue, charcoal, and blush, with a ivory field.

Rag rugs are woven from strips of recycled or surplus fabric — cotton, wool, or silk — rather than yarn, producing a textile that is both resourceful and visually distinctive. The tradition spans many cultures: American hooked and braided rag rugs, Turkish "Caput" flatweaves made from surplus cotton, and Moroccan "Boucherouite" rugs of recycled fabric strips.

Moroccan Boucherouite rag rugs are particularly prized today for their extravagant improvised designs, bold coloring, and creative geometric patterns, woven by Berber women using whatever colorful fabric came to hand. No two are alike, and their joyful, improvisational quality has made them enormously popular in contemporary interiors worldwide.
