This antique circa 1920 Malayer runner from Persia is a hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind weaving distinguished by an ivory field, linked blue-gray diamond medallions, and finely articulated geometric ornament. Its elongated tribal composition is framed by multiple narrow floral-geometric borders, with softly aged tones that lend exceptional depth and collector appeal. An ideal centerpiece for a hallway, entryway, or dining area.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, blue gray, taupe, ochre, camel, charcoal, brown, and sage, with a ivory field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
