Dimensions: 3'4" x 11'8" (102 cm x 356 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique Malayer runner, circa 1920, is a hand-knotted Persian rug with an elongated ivory field densely patterned in faded turquoise, soft blue, and warm taupe geometric floral motifs. Its finely articulated reciprocal border and repeating latticework create a refined, time-softened tribal elegance, and every rug in this collection is handmade and one-of-a-kind. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, turquoise, taupe, soft blue, charcoal, camel, sage, and brown, with a ivory field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
