This vintage Malayer runner is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian rug with a striking all-over tribal-geometric design set against a warm rust field. Its elongated format, crisp border work, and finely articulated motifs create strong visual rhythm, while the softly aged palette of ivory, blue, brown, and camel gives it an authentic collector-friendly presence. An ideal centerpiece for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Muted warm tones of rust, camel, ivory, brown, slate, taupe, charcoal, and terra cotta, with a rust field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
