Circa: 1910.
This antique circa 1910 Khorassan rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian runner distinguished by its refined all-over lattice of floral motifs and elegant elongated proportions. The richly detailed field and layered border system showcase classic hand-knotted craftsmanship, with a beautifully aged palette of rose, navy, and soft ivory that gives the piece depth and collector appeal. An ideal statement rug for a hallway, entryway, or long dining room.
Faded warm tones of rose, navy, burgundy, ivory, dusty pink, taupe, and charcoal, with a rose field.
Khorasan (also Khorassan) is a vast region of northeastern Iran encompassing a number of important weaving centers, most notably Meshed (now Mashhad), the region's capital. Khorasan rugs share certain characteristics — double-wefted cotton foundations, asymmetric knotting, and elaborate curvilinear floral designs — while varying considerably in quality and palette from workshop to workshop.
The finest antique Khorasan carpets rival the great city workshops of central Persia in their technical achievement. Their palette tends toward rich reds, deep blues, and ivory, with medallion and all-over floral formats predominating. They are substantial, formal rugs suited to large rooms and traditional interiors.
