Dimensions: 2'7" x 4'1" (79 cm x 124 cm).
Circa: 1930.
Handmade and one of a kind, this antique Belouch rug, circa 1930, presents a striking tribal lattice of octagonal guls in soft sky blue across an ivory field. Its hand-knotted construction and gently faded palette give the piece a refined, timeworn character, while the open composition and graphic border details make it especially appealing for collectors of understated nomadic weavings. An ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or bedroom.
Faded cool tones of ivory, sky blue, beige, and taupe, with a ivory field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
