Handmade and one-of-a-kind, this antique Belouch rug, circa 1930, presents a distinctive tribal prayer design in a softly faded camel and ivory palette with pale blue accents. The hand-knotted field is framed by layered geometric borders and animated by stepped motifs, small latch-hook details, and a central panel that gives the composition depth and collector appeal. Its warm, understated character makes it an ideal accent for an entryway, office, or bedroom.
Faded warm tones of camel, ivory, pale blue, charcoal, and taupe, with a camel field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
