This vintage Saraband runner is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece with a bold sequence of geometric medallions set across a terracotta field and framed by crisp ivory and blue borders. The elongated design, angular tribal motifs, and finely articulated patterning give it the distinctive character collectors seek in Persian village weaving. A striking accent for a hallway, entryway, or narrow living space.
Muted warm tones of terra cotta, ivory, blue, rust, slate, sage, and charcoal, with a terra cotta field.
Saraband rugs are woven in the Saraband district of Arak province in west-central Iran, and are perhaps best known for the "mir" or boteh field pattern — rows of small paisley-like teardrop forms — that has become one of the most widely recognized motifs in Oriental rug design. The boteh may represent a bent cypress tree, a flame, or a stylized leaf; its exact origin is debated.
Classic Saraband rugs feature this all-over boteh field on a rich red ground with a distinctive border composition. They are woven on a cotton foundation with the asymmetric knot and a medium pile. Their warm, rhythmic pattern and versatile palette have made them enduringly popular in traditional and transitional interiors.
