This antique Shiraz rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian tribal weaving with a softly timeworn palette and a striking vertical medallion composition. Its hand-knotted character is expressed through the nuanced, faded field, geometric tribal drawing, and layered border details that give the piece depth, texture, and collector appeal. Shiraz is the capital city of Fars province in south western Iran and is major collection center for the regions tribal and village rugs. They are woven on a wool foundation with an asymmetrical knot, usually with medallions on a densely covered field of geometric and animal motifs.
