This antique Gabbeh rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal carpet distinguished by its bold geometric drawing and softly aged palette. The composition features a sequence of diamond medallions and hexagonal motifs set against a pale blue field, framed by a finely rendered border that enhances its hand-knotted character and collector appeal. Its balanced symmetry and airy patterning make it an ideal accent for a hallway, bedroom, or office.

Gabbe (also Gabbeh) rugs are woven by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribal women in the Zagros Mountains of southern Iran, primarily by the Qashqai and Luri tribes. The word "gabbeh" means "raw" or "unfinished" in Persian, reflecting the bold, improvisational aesthetic of these textiles — thick-piled, loosely knotted, and filled with naive figurative imagery: animals, people, trees, and abstract forms drawn directly from the weaver's imagination and daily life.

Their thick, soft pile, earthy natural dyes, and utterly original imagery have made Gabbeh rugs enormously popular since they were "discovered" by the Western market in the 1980s. They bring immediate warmth and personality to any interior.
