Dimensions: 3'1" x 10'3" (94 cm x 312 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique Northwest Persian runner, circa 1920, is a hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind weaving with a striking geometric field organized around linked stepped medallions and stylized floral motifs. Its softly aged palette of taupe, brown, ivory, and muted blue gives the tribal design a refined, collected character, while the narrow guard borders and patterned main border sharpen the long, elegant format. An ideal choice for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, brown, ivory, blue gray, and charcoal, with a taupe field.
Northwest Persian is a regional designation covering the broad arc of carpet-producing areas in Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, and the surrounding provinces of northwestern Iran — including Heriz, Serapi, Bakhshayesh, Karaje, and the many Kurdish and Shahsavan tribal weaving groups of the region. The area has been one of the most prolific and important sources of antique carpets in the world.
Northwest Persian rugs share a family resemblance: bold geometric or semi-geometric designs, strong natural dye palettes, and robust construction on wool or cotton foundations. The range of quality and style is enormous — from grand Serapi palace carpets to humble village runners — but all share a vitality and directness that makes them perennially compelling.
