Circa: 1930.
This antique Shiraz rug, circa 1930, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving distinguished by its striking sky-blue field and bold geometric medallion composition. Angular animal and symbolic motifs, a richly layered border system, and nuanced age-softened color create the collector appeal that defines Persian village craftsmanship. Its graphic presence and compact 3' x 4' format make it an ideal accent for an entryway, office, or bedroom.
Faded cool tones of sky blue, rust, ivory, camel, brown, gold, and charcoal, with a blue field.
Shiraz is the capital city of Fars province in south western Iran and is major collection center for the regions tribal and village rugs. They are woven on a wool foundation with an asymmetrical knot, usually with medallions on a densely covered field of geometric and animal motifs. One of the most well known tribes in the area are the Qashqai.
