Antique Belouch rug, circa 1920, with a richly geometric tribal design arranged in a lattice of octagonal guls across a deep brown field. This handmade, one-of-a-kind weaving pairs soft camel, blush pink, and pale aqua accents with crisp linear drawing and a narrow border, giving the piece a distinctive nomadic character and collector appeal. Its compact 2' x 4' format makes it an ideal accent for an entryway, hallway, or office.
Faded warm tones of brown, camel, blush pink, pale aqua, ivory, charcoal, and taupe, with a brown field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
