Dimensions: 8'4" x 10'5" (254 cm x 318 cm).
This vintage Rag Rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind flatwoven textile with an airy striped composition and a beautifully time-softened palette. Its ivory ground is enlivened by horizontal bands of sky blue, teal, rose, and brown, giving the piece an understated bohemian character and an authentic handcrafted presence. A versatile decorative layer for a bedroom, living room, or casual office.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, sky blue, teal, rose, brown, and aqua, with a ivory field.
Rag rugs are woven from strips of recycled or surplus fabric — cotton, wool, or silk — rather than yarn, producing a textile that is both resourceful and visually distinctive. The tradition spans many cultures: American hooked and braided rag rugs, Turkish "Caput" flatweaves made from surplus cotton, and Moroccan "Boucherouite" rugs of recycled fabric strips.
Moroccan Boucherouite rag rugs are particularly prized today for their extravagant improvised designs, bold coloring, and creative geometric patterns, woven by Berber women using whatever colorful fabric came to hand. No two are alike, and their joyful, improvisational quality has made them enormously popular in contemporary interiors worldwide.
