Antique NW Persian Runner Rug (3' x 9')
Dimensions: 3'8" x 9'0" (112 cm x 274 cm).
Circa: 1900.
This antique Northwest Persian runner, circa 1900, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving with a striking column of hooked hexagonal medallions set against a richly patterned field. Its bold geometric drawing, saturated rust and indigo palette, and finely articulated border work give it the character collectors prize in hand-knotted Persian rugs. A distinctive decorative accent for a hallway, entryway, or narrow living space.
Vibrant warm tones of rust, indigo, ivory, navy, terra cotta, camel, and crimson, with a rust field.

Northwest Persian is a regional designation covering the broad arc of carpet-producing areas in Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, and the surrounding provinces of northwestern Iran — including Heriz, Serapi, Bakhshayesh, Karaje, and the many Kurdish and Shahsavan tribal weaving groups of the region. The area has been one of the most prolific and important sources of antique carpets in the world.
Northwest Persian rugs share a family resemblance: bold geometric or semi-geometric designs, strong natural dye palettes, and robust construction on wool or cotton foundations. The range of quality and style is enormous — from grand Serapi palace carpets to humble village runners — but all share a vitality and directness that makes them perennially compelling.
