This antique Sarab runner, woven in Northwest Persia circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece with the elongated proportions and bold tribal geometry prized by collectors. Its deep blue field is organized with a rhythmic chain of stepped medallions, framed by a lively border of angular floral and latch-hook motifs that showcase the clarity and character of hand-knotted village craftsmanship. Richly patterned yet highly versatile, it brings warmth, structure, and authentic antique presence to a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Muted warm tones of navy, rust, camel, ivory, sky blue, crimson, and charcoal, with a navy field.
Sarab rugs are from the same area as Heriz and Serapi rugs in north west Iran. Sarab rugs usually come in a runner format with a camel grounds and geometric patterns. They are not woven in workshops, but cottage industry. These pieces are woven on smaller looms and are woven not following any plans or drawing but using designs handed down and drawn from memory and surroundings. Each piece is unique both in style and color placement, with the weaver free to express themselves in their own artistic style.
