Dimensions: 3'4" x 16'4" (102 cm x 498 cm).
Circa: 1920.
This antique Sarab runner, woven circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece distinguished by its elongated tribal geometry and striking sequence of latch-hooked medallions. The ivory field is framed by richly detailed borders in rust, indigo, and red, creating crisp contrast and the graphic character collectors prize in Northwest Persian village rugs. Its finely articulated patterning and long, narrow format make it an ideal choice for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Muted warm tones of ivory, rust, red, indigo, camel, navy, brown, and sky blue, with a ivory field.
Sarab rugs are from the same area as Heriz and Serapi rugs in north west Iran. Sarab rugs usually come in a runner format with a camel grounds and geometric patterns. They are not woven in workshops, but cottage industry. These pieces are woven on smaller looms and are woven not following any plans or drawing but using designs handed down and drawn from memory and surroundings. Each piece is unique both in style and color placement, with the weaver free to express themselves in their own artistic style.
