This vintage Belouch rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind runner distinguished by its finely drawn tribal geometry and softly timeworn palette. The all-over field of repeating star-like motifs, framed by multiple geometric borders, showcases the crisp character of hand-knotted craftsmanship and a beautifully faded decorative presence. Its narrow 3' x 7' format makes it an ideal accent for a hallway, entryway, or beside a bed.
Faded neutral tones of ivory, camel, taupe, pale blue, and sand, with a ivory field.
Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.
Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
