This antique Belouch rug, circa 1920, is a handmade, one-of-a-kind tribal weaving distinguished by its striking camel-and-brown palette and highly graphic animal motifs. The hand-knotted design features a spacious field framed by a crisp geometric border, with stylized creatures and small symbolic elements that give the piece strong folk-art character and collector appeal. Its compact 3' x 4' format makes it an ideal accent for an entryway, office, or bedroom.

Faded warm tones of camel, brown, ivory, taupe, and charcoal, with a ivory field.

Belouch (also Baluch or Balochi) rugs are woven by the Baluch tribal confederacy spanning eastern Iran, western Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan. Among the most immediate and expressive of all tribal rugs, they are made on horizontal ground looms using a wool foundation and a distinctive palette dominated by deep reds, rich browns, dark navy, and ivory — colors drawn from the natural dyes of the desert plateau.

Designs include prayer formats, repeating geometric field patterns, and stylized tree-of-life compositions, often finished with elaborate flatwoven kilim ends. Their rustic, heartfelt quality and superb natural dyes make them perennially popular with collectors and designers seeking authentic tribal character.
