Antique Malayer Area Rug (3' x 6')
Dimensions: 3'10" x 6'1" (117 cm x 185 cm).
Circa: 1930.
This antique circa 1930 Malayer rug is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian runner with a richly drawn tribal-geometric design and a beautifully aged palette. The stepped lattice of hooked diamond motifs, deep indigo field, and rust-toned borders give it the character collectors prize in hand-knotted village rugs, while the visible abrash and nuanced wear add depth and authenticity. Its narrow proportions and graphic presence make it especially well suited for a hallway, entryway, or office.
Faded warm tones of indigo, rust, rose, slate, terra cotta, ivory, and charcoal, with a indigo field.

Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
