This antique Bidjar rug, handmade and one-of-a-kind, showcases the enduring artistry of Persian weaving with a softly aged palette and a striking central medallion composition. Its hand-knotted design features a faded taupe field accented by blue-gray, ivory, and brown geometric-floral detailing within a defined border, giving the piece a refined, timeworn character collectors appreciate. An ideal accent for a living room, bedroom, or office.
Faded neutral tones of taupe, ivory, blue gray, brown, beige, and charcoal, with a taupe field.
Bidjar is a Kurdish town in northwestern Iran, renowned for producing what are often called the "iron rugs of Persia" — the heaviest, most densely woven and structurally rigid pile rugs in the world. The distinctive construction technique, in which the weft threads are hammered tightly into place during weaving, creates an almost board-like stiffness and an exceptionally dense pile that wears virtually indefinitely.
Bidjar designs include elaborate herati patterns, large floral medallions, and the distinctive "garden" or vase carpet format. Their palette tends toward deep jewel tones — rich madder reds, indigos, and ivory. Bidjar rugs are ideal for high-traffic areas and are among the most durable of all Oriental rugs.
