This vintage Malayer runner is a handmade, one-of-a-kind Persian rug with a crisp all-over geometric design set against a soft blue field. Its repeating lattice of stylized medallion and floral motifs, framed by an ivory border, gives the piece a refined tribal character and an airy, decorative presence. A versatile accent for a hallway, entryway, or kitchen.
Muted cool tones of blue, ivory, terracotta, navy, cream, and camel, with a blue field.
Malayer rugs are woven in and around the town of Malayer in western Iran, within the greater Hamadan district. Comprising over a hundred villages each with its own subtle design traditions, the Malayer region produces hand-knotted rugs on a cotton foundation using the symmetrical Turkish knot — finer and more tightly woven than most Hamadan work.
Malayer designs tend toward the geometric, with herati, mahi (fish), and stylized floral patterns rendered in a traditional palette of deep indigo, madder red, and ivory. Their precise drawing, durable construction, and handsome proportions make antique Malayer rugs a consistently sought-after choice for collectors and decorators alike.
